Our new Head of Development & Learning is…
Fiona Koefoed-Jespersen
It is a delight to get to join the LCSD in this role! My own spiritual direction journey is closely connected with the Centre: I trained on the Encounter programme and later did LCSDs Supervision training too, I have logged on to many Developing Direction workshops and come to Network days, I have worked as an Encounter tutor for the past five years.
The London Centre has been an important focus for my own growth and development as a spiritual companion, and so it feels like a lovely circling of the labyrinth to now be given the opportunity to bring my gifts, skills and experience to this role and offer something back to the whole community.
I see this role as equipping and empowering the community of spiritual companions to truly flourish in their work - using their skills confidently, leaning into their areas of growth with courage and grace, and above all, being deeply rooted in the faithfulness of God, who companions us all through our life’s journey.
I’ll also be working with the rest of the team to consider how we best support those right at the start of the journey into this space, and what our various learning pathways look like.
“I see this role as equipping and empowering the community of spiritual companions to truly flourish in their work ”
I’m aware of a significant shift in the context of this work now, as many more people seek out accompaniment, more people express interest in offering it (from increasingly diverse backgrounds and traditions) and as we wrestle with what it means to be followers of Christ in our particular time and space.
None of these challenges scare me; on the contrary, I am truly excited about the potential of our ministry to meet people where they are on their spiritual journeys, and empower them to discern God’s calling in their lives to be light and love in the church and in our communities. We will need courage and wisdom, and we will need one another, in all our diversity, to lean into the calling God has for us as a community of accompaniers.
My hope for this job, therefore, is that I can be a good listener (the first task of any spiritual director!) and hear well what you need to fully inhabit this shared calling. I’ll be building on the strong foundation laid by those who have worked here before, in particular Antonia’s wisdom and perception and gift at inviting people into community.
I will need your help! And I hope I can encourage us all to dare to dream - to lift up our eyes, as God invited Abraham, and look to the north and south and east and west, to survey the land around us and discern the paths we are being invited to walk through it, trusting that God will cause us to see the Way unfolding before us.
Come and say hello to Fiona at her Office Hour at 12:30 on 23 October 2025. It’s a chance to meet Fiona if you don't know her yet and share what you would like to see in terms of development, learning and community.
