Members’ Event - Finding God's Feminine Side

For most Christians, God is He. That’s the unnoticed wallpaper of our Christian lives, impacting our understanding of both God and ourselves. In this LCSD Member session, spiritual companion and author Catherine Cowell will join Fiona Koefoed-Jespersen for a conversation on discovering the beautiful, but often overlooked feminine imagery for God in the Bible and an exploration of why our view of God has been so masculine, why that imbalance might be a problem and what we might want to do about it.

Catherine and Fiona will explore how this theme might show up in the Spiritual Direction space, and what the implications might be. There will be opportunity for Members to talk with one another in breakout rooms, and a Q&A session to go deeper.

Catherine Cowell

Catherine is a spiritual director, coach, retreat leader and facilitator of gatherings of many kinds. She has been on a journey to discovering the feminine side of God for the last decade - hence the book. She is the adoptive parent of two sons who are now taller than her, for whom life has been a bit of a challenge. She mentors and runs courses for parents of children with additional needs and is currently researching a PhD into special needs parenting and spirituality. She was a Speech and Language Therapist for twenty years, specialising in neuropsychiatry and working with adults with brain injury and dementia, before managing an adult Speech and Language Therapy department for a few years.  But that’s quite a long time ago now. She has also led a Fresh Expression of church, set up a ministry to clubbers called Nightchurch, in Stoke on Trent and taken a prayer tent to Gay Pride. She is the host of the Loved Called Gifted  podcast.
