Blessing for Spiritual Companions

The following blessing was co-created by members of the LCSD community during a communal “river examen” in January 2026 and edited into its final form by Fiona Koefoed-Jespersen. We offer it as a blessing for all spiritual companions in the year to come!

May we remember the Source.

May we always know and trust

in the ever-present connection to our Source;

whether through rapids or meanderings, God is there.

May we be connected to the wellsprings of life.

May we remember the water is always present underground,

bubbling up from the Source,

even in times of drought or when rocks impede its flow.

May we be open and brave to flow with the Divine

to new terrain and through every new current,

through shallows and rapids that we have not experienced before;

May we experience free fall in grace.

May we grow in our ability to be still and silent in God’s presence.

May we continue to see the life

and celebrate the freedom of going with the flow.

May the Spirit of God meet us in that flow,

giving life in dull, disrupted flow,

in the clear, bubbling spring,

in a dried out trickle.

May we float in the pools of tranquility.

May we know God’s delight in us.

May we go at the speed of the river’s flow.

May this be a year of gentle flow, of expansion

and the unifying of different tributaries into one river.

May we recognise God's invitation to offer ourselves to others;

May we look to the Light and trust in its showing,

believing its energy to meet people's needs.

May we always have plenty,

and enough to feed the stranger at our gate

May we be grounded in the love of God,

filled with the wisdom of God for those that we walk with;

May we be a soft place to land.

May the rhythm of our footsteps remain steady,

May the river of spiritual direction continue to broaden and deepen.

May we hold sacred spaces that help those we accompany

know the forever love of Christ, real and secure in their own lives.

May we be blessed as we listen to others and hear their stories.

And may we be a blessing to them -

that they will know they've been seen, heard and loved in that moment.

May we be the companions needed.

May we live and minister with gratitude, sensitivity and grace.

May our dreams and desires be tame enough to be real,

and wild enough to allow us and those we accompany to feel free.

May we be blessed with the curiosity and capacity

to continue to put one foot in front of another,

to recognise Holy presence, to sink into it

and to always have cause to be thankful.

May we be mindful of our humanity, of our limits,

May we live into a kinder, gentler and more sustainable rhythm

for our life and work.

May we be blessed as we join others in their boats as they travel the river of life.

May we take off from the roof top like a gull on the wings of the Spirit!
