Spiritual Direction Mental Health and Self Care

What does Christian spiritual direction have to offer those who are struggling with their own mental wellbeing? This workshop will look at some of the specific gifts, and tools spiritual direction has to offer and some of the research around spirituality and mental health.

And how do we as spiritual directors maintain our own wellbeing? We will look at some simple and powerful self care principles that might enable us to receive some of the care we offer to others


Catherine Armstrong

Catherine Armstrong is an experienced spiritual director and supervisor who taught for many years on the Encounter course. She has an MA in Christian Spirituality focusing particularly on Spiritual Direction and mental health and is continuing her research in this field. She also is a trained self care facilitator. Catherine works in the NHS as a peer support lead using her lived experience of a mental health disability to come alongside others who are in crisis.
