Drawing Fruit from Our Ministry: Preparing for supervision as a spiritual practice

"Consider, observe, and contemplate... and then reflect and draw some fruit from it" (Ignatius).

Reflecting on a spiritual direction session afterwards can reveal much that went unattended to in the moment. This is especially true if we are aware that we are on holy ground in our reflection, just as we were at the time. In a reflective and interactive day together, we will explore a method of reviewing our practice that is rooted in ancient spiritual practice and embodies an Ignatian dynamic.

As directors, we need to model the 'dance' of action and reflection that we hope our directees will discover in their own lives. We can do this in our review of our practice and preparation for supervision, in a way that will help us prepare for supervision with more clarity and a deeper contemplative stance.

How can we begin a process of self-supervision that is thorough, yet prayerful, honoring the sacredness of the spiritual direction space?
